Archery originated from hunting in Europe, which was enjoyed by both royal families and the local people. The trees were marked for practice and also for competition after hunting seasons. Those marks were later developed into targets used in today’s sport of field archery. Field archery differs from the Olympic sport of archery because it takes place in a natural setting such as a forest. There are two courses in field archery, and 24 targets in each course, with targets ranging from 5m-60m in distance. Competitors are required to shoot the arrow into the target one after another. This differs from Olympic archery which is a game in-one on one player at a time.
